Zoé Williard AP STUDIO ART
Artist Statement:
Femininity is about individualism. With my artwork I am expressing my individualistic representation of womanhood. Through my life I went from being extremely uncomfortable with the idea of female anatomy and sexuality to wanting to fully embrace it and explore it. Creating explicitly emotional and personal pieces of artwork has helped me push through the initial guilt and embarrassment I felt when starting my concentration. Feminism is one of the biggest aspects of my life and I wanted to portray that in my artwork; more importantly Intersectional Feminism. I didn't want to feel guilty about my body or feel like I needed to repress myself for other people so I started embracing Feminism and Feminist ideals to retrain my brain to seeing women as powerful, capable, individualistic, sensual all for themselves; not for men or other women. I am a very visual a very visual thinker so art gives me a way to communicate my thoughts in the best way I can. I could tell you my thoughts on femininity but I'd much rather show you, and that's what I am doing with my artwork. |
